Relationships: balancing our interpersonal relationships in veterinary school can be a demanding but rewarding and essential undertaking. How do you meet new friends or significant others while in vet school, or how do you make quality time available to the special ones you already have? Vet school certainly changes your routine, and not only is it a huge adjustment for the student but life begins to change quite a bit for those around them. When I began vet school, I had been married for two years and my family was only four hours away. Right or any Mr. So I began to tier my priorities. Yes, school is undoubtedly important, but not so important that you become a hermit, emerging from your vet school cave after four long years to realize you lost all your friends and family because you had vet school tunnel vision. I often felt like there were not enough hours in the day to fit in all the things that were important: studying, sleeping, spending time with hubby and dogs, visiting family, exercising…the list goes on and on, but then I realized it was all a matter of schedule. The concept of putting your life on a schedule seems a bit neurotic, yes, I know, but when I became a vet student, this was the only way to keep my sanity.

It can be fun sometimes. Also, make the most of precious off times and really learn to live in those moments.

Veterinary Student Externship
In the past, I had been quite critical of relationships amongst veterinary students. The idea of dating within the veterinary class seemed quite risky and destined for failure. This was because I had the misconception that two people undergoing the stresses of such a laborious program would be unable to have a healthy, balanced relationship. As first-year, and then second-year progressed, relationships began to form within my class and between other classes.
Most started out subtly and became more public as the relationships strengthened. As with any other small program, rumors were spread and the entire class found out.

While reading the New York Times best seller Freakonomics , I was pleasantly surprised to see Levitt and Dubner list female veterinarians as one of the top three most desirable on-line daters. But men often have a misperception that women only want a pet so women can fulfill their maternal instincts by grooming it and braiding its hair. Female veterinarians escape that stereotype — guys know we probably have a higher tolerance for dirt, hair, drool, and mud.
If I can make a broad generalization, female veterinarians are hard working, somewhat anal retentive, outdoorsy, love animals, and are well-rounded. Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Justine Lee. Jul 28 0.
